SPOILERS FOR BATMAN OKAY
I think that part was so that Robin could have his big “wow I tried to do this by the book and that didn’t work so FUCK THAT SHIT” and also emotional kick. And yeah, I was gripping my husband’s arm and wincing every time that bomb hit something.
Oh, you’re probably right. Wow, I didn’t even pick that up. I mean, I caught it throughout the movie as a whole, he kept running into it and it was clearer then. But here, it was Batman that gave him the job, and he was technically DEFYING authority by going out there on the bridge.
Or, more likely, I was overstimulated by that point and had stopped coherently taking in information. XD
Yeah, there was a lot of over-stimulation happening towards the end of the movie. A LOT of stuff was happening. I really liked the cop, though, so it was… right in the feels. Like, Gordon warns him in the apartment (kind of), but he’s still SO determined to do it by the book the whole time. It wasn’t until the end, when he realized that going up and trying to talk as a peer, as a citizen, as someone who needed help - didn’t do anything.
It gave them time to fuck him over.
That’s why he throws his badge into the river. He realizes kind of what Batman was there for - when your structure becomes a prison, you gotta go vigilante, I guess. It was really powerful when he was screaming across the bridge, like “YOU MURDERED US”. I felt it in my gut, because his last ounce of trust in the system was just completely destroyed, and then he had to turn around and hold it in because the KIDS and you can’t upset them, I mean, they’re going to die, but you can’t let them die afraid - I… I guess I have more Robin feels than I thought!
