The Sith Empire returned from the Unknown Regions in 3681 BBY (and beat the shit out the Republic at the Battle of Korriban that same year), and the Sacking of Coruscant happened in 3653 BBY. The start of the game is implied to be ~10 years after the Sacking, so roughly 3643/3642 BBY. Based on the article, that would put the Chiss and the Empire hooking up about 38/37 years ago.

Maybe round it to 40, IDK?
